Volunteers are invaluable in the production of our books. In 2010 we estimate that our volunteers donated a total of 203 days to us, that's a 9% increase on the previous year. We have four main types of volunteer:
Regular Workshop Volunteers
Around 40% of our volunteer days come from people who come into our workshop in Vauxhall/Battersea one day per week. Supported by our skilled Craft Artists, the volunteers can use their craft skills or even learn new ones should they wish to do so. Typical tasks include work with wood, plastics, card and fabric. For more details please contact Sophie Baker our Craft Workshop Manager.
Home-based Volunteers
We have a small team of seven home-based volunteers who produce certain items for us using knitting or sewing skills - items that are light and can be easily posted to us. For more details please contact Sophie Baker our Craft Workshop Manager.
Corporate Volunteers
Every couple of months we will hold a Corporate Craft Day. We can accomodate a team of 12 people in our workshop for the whole day or we can visit an office in London and have five one-hour taster sessions with 10 people in each. During 2010 we were assisted by teams from White & Case, City & Guilds, HSBC Group Risk, HSBC Private Bank (twice) and Standard Chartered. For more details please contact Camilla John our Corporate Fundraising Manager.
Administrative Volunteers
We have also benefitted from the services of several volunteers on the administrative side of our work; tasks such as recording feedback from storytelling sessions and filing. For more details please contact Dean Casswell our Chief Executive.
