About Bag Books

The Organisation

In 1989 Chris Fuller wrote a manual for making six "tactile stories", which was published by the Resources for Learning Difficulties in West London.

However, research showed that very few buyers had the time and resources to assemble the stories.  So, in 1993, Bag Books was established to make multi-sensory story packs available ready made.

For well over a decade, Bag Books, a charity and not-for-profit company, has been producing a growing range of multi-sensory story-packs.  Initially, the story-packs were written just for children, but today there are story-packs which are age-appropriate for everyone from youngsters to older adults.

The work of Bag Books is overseen by a Board of Trustees, and we benefit from the guidance of an Advisory Board.  Our funding comes mostly from charitable Trusts and Foundations and corporate partnerships.

The Director

Mrs Chris Fuller has worked with children and young adults with severe, and profound intellectual and multiple disabilities for 24 years. During this time she has taught in special schools, provided INSET in schools, Institutes of Education and Libraries and worked with parents and other carers.

Chris holds a postgraduate Diploma in the Education and Psychology of Children with Special Needs, and has lead Bag Books' delivery of service for thirteen years.

The Team

Bag Books’ workshop is managed by Senior Craft Artist, Sophie Baker and her Deputy, with their crew of Craft Workers hand-making every story-pack.  Most are working artists with skills and experience in a wide range of fields and materials – from silk to steel.

Finally, we also have a small team of staff and volunteers providing administration support and fundraising.
